A July photo from Vic Nippert "Just about finished the Rockytop Albatross... Still a few fiddly details to add, but it makes up into very sturdy, but light, model. No flights yet, but having fun holding it up and going around the house making making bracccccccckkkkkkkk. sounds....." ![]() |
A photo from Bob Wetherell out west. "I thought you might enjoy this picture of my 37-inch Puss Moth. This model is powered by a .4 cc diesel that is based on the 1.3 cc Mills design. It was built by Derek Knight in the shed in his back garden in the UK and the craftsmanship is exceptional. It starts easily even inverted in the Puss Moth and is the perfect power for this model. The model itself started life in the mid 1990s powered by a Davis Cox .020 CO2 conversion. It flew a lot and eventually was overcome by hanger rash. A few years ago I stripped the tissue from the airframe (not the most fun job), built a new fuselage with the diesel engine, and covered it all with silk. The Puss Moth has a big wing so the wing loading is light and the model just loves to fly – over 100 flights in the present incarnation. M.A.N. used to have a feature called “My Favorite Model.” This one fits that title for me." ![]() |
